Helicobacter Pylori isn't a stomach ulcer, it's a very resistant bacteria which sits in your stomach and causes Gastritis (Stomach Inflamation) the cure is Triple Therapy (Metronidazole, Ciprofloxacin and Omeprazole - although there are other combos). For a Stomach ulcer you should be prescribed Omeprazole, Lansoprazole, Esomeprazole or Nexium. People also sometimes refer to it as Losec which is the older name for the drug.

Derail: interesting. I was speaking to someone about this recently who said that the main cause of ulcers is H. Pylori and that a course of antibiotics often works to eradicate it. The conversation came about after talking about unconventional research. The guy who discovered that stomach ulcers were caused like this infected himself to test his hypothesis.

Yep, you're right, the main cause is the bacteria. Antibiotics will kill the bacteria but the stomach ulcer would need the protective effect of the Omeprazole, to be allowed to settle down on its own. You can't really cure a stomach ulcer, once you've had one you've got to be very careful with things like medication. Anti-Coags and Non-Steriodal Anti Inflams like Ibuprofen. Interesting that the guy infected himself with H. Pylori...I wouldn't be doing that Gastritis sucks!
